Background:
An acclaimed, high-powered law firm in Tallahassee Florida has been living for years with a parking problem.
The office is adjacent to the Florida State Capitol, as is the firm’s parking garage, used by its partners, staff and suppliers. Unfortunately, oftentimes, individuals doing business in the statehouse were parking in spaces designed specifically for the senior staff. Towing unauthorized vehicles was not an option, as some of the motorists were VIPs – state and federal governmental representatives and business executives – who often do business with the law firm. For a few months per session, the firm would hire a security guard – costing $15,000 – to do nothing but protect its parking spaces. But there were still issues; still disputes. That’s when the firm’s Facilities Manager learned of the MySpot 200 barrier by Designated Parking, Inc.
Designated Parking Corp. MySpot 200 is a low cost, self-contained, remote controlled barrier that secures a parking space – or restricts access to a driveway – with the click of a button from inside a vehicle. The barriers are surface mounted on the tarmac and require no external power or wiring. The law firm did its research and decided to test one barrier. After a three weeks test at the parking space of a key partner, the partners endorsed the idea.
Results:
The building now has 22 parking spaces earmarked for key personnel using Designated Parking’s MySpot 200 barriers. This permanent barrier works year-round unlike the hired guard. And also unlike the guard, the firm had to pay only once for these barriers. An interesting benefit seems to be the psychology of the barriers. It seems that even when some individuals leave their barriers down, people still avoid parking in those designated spaces. All in all, the key personnel responsible for the efficient daily operations of this office know their parking spot is waiting for them.
